Hello. My name is Meg. At the start of this blogging experience I am 37 and a bit years old. I was born and raised in upstate New York, then travelled around a bit, living in Kentucky and North Carolina before moving to Europe in 2000. I lived and worked in Germany for two years (and absolutely love all things German) and Switzerland for one year before moving to England, getting married and becoming a Mom to the most amazing twins in the world (in my humble opininon).
I decided to start my own blog to share ideas for baking and craft projects and to tell stories of my unique life as an ordinary American living in the beautiful countryside of Northamptonshire, England.
The blog is entitled ‘An American in Jane Austen’s England’ because 1. I love Jane Austen – there is no author to compare with her writings, 2. We live in the village containing the Estate that was the inspiration for one of Jane Austen’s novels, 3. And most of all, I feel that it sums up my feelings regarding our new life in this place which seems ‘timeless’ – like at any moment I may turn the corner and bump into Mr. Darcy, a hunting party, a milking maid, or a hackney-coach. This is a place where neighbors look out for one another, where, I believe, the true heart of England resides – rolling green countryside, pheasants strolling along the roadside, aristocrats living alongside artists, farmers, professionals, and yes, even a stay at home American Mom.
I’d like to think I’m quite a creative person. I love to bake, make cards, scrapbook, play with felt, beads- I could go on and on. I’m also a real people person, and get my energy from bouncing ideas off of others…so please feel free to comment on my posts and add any suggestions. I look forward to hearing from you.
